Headstands can be scary; they literally turn your world upside down. Being a parent can be scary; there is no instruction manual with children. Work can be scary; the feeling of inadequacy can seep in when you least expect it. Leadership can be scary; am I leading by example, will others choose to follow? Life can be scary; life can turn your world upside down.
On a recent vacation, it seemed only natural to convene with nature, upside down, on the beach, at sunset. It didn’t matter who was around. It didn’t matter what people thought. What mattered was I had a few minutes to take a big inhale, a giant exhale and invert. Did it change the look of the sunset, not really, but with any inversion, a new, clearer picture emerged. Each inhale and exhale allowed the breathe to swell in my lungs and provide clarity in my head.
I have made it a goal for the rest of summer to invert in unique, beautiful locations. Not just to have a picture taken of doing an inversion, but to see the location with a clearer head and heart.
Time spent upside down everyday is one of the best things you could possibly do for yourself. Headstands bring health and vitality to the body while calming and soothing the mind and spirit. You may not be able to practice an inversion whenever the urge strikes, but you can do this…Take a long, deep inhale followed b a long, deep exhale and just be.
